A generous gift from the Vera Z. Dwyer Charitable Trust in the form of a dollar-for-dollar matching grant up to $1 million will ultimately establish a permanent endowment to fund the Vera Z. Dwyer Fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. This gift will enable us to annually fund one doctor’s participation in the one-year program.
Due to the immediate need to increase physician training in hospice and palliative medicine, the Trust is also providing a gift of $100,000 per year for five years to fund one physician per year in the Vera Z. Dwyer Fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine which has been established at the Indiana University School of Medicine.
Through an additional gift of $250,000 over five years, the Hospice Foundation and CHC will be able to devote resources toward the development of community education programs. These programs will include: facilitator training on advance planning strategies, workshops and seminars on the importance of having conversations with family members regarding end-of-life wishes, as well as the development of written advance directives.
This transformational $1.75 million gift from the Vera Z. Dwyer Charitable Trust to CHC’s Crossroads Campaign will move northern Indiana communities forward in meeting the ever-increasing demand for hospice care.
“This amazing gift puts CHC at the forefront of delivering specialized training in hospice and palliative medicine,” said CHC President/CEO Mark Murray. “By enabling us to support additional community educational activities and train more physicians, CHC will continue to lead the way in all end-of-life issues.”
