Center for Hospice Care and the Hospice Foundation recognized a force for good in our community – and around the world – as the 39th Helping Hands Award recipient

Father Malloy, renowned for his community service, is a model of compassion and dedication. The 16th President of the University of Notre Dame, Fr. Malloy transformed the institution into a beacon of service-oriented education. Under his leadership, Notre Dame expaned its outreach programs, emphasizing the importance of giving back to society.

Fr. Malloy’s dedication to community service extends far beyond the confines of the university. He has actively engaged in numerous philanthropic endeavors, advocating for social justice and equality.  His vision of service as a cornerstone of education continues to inspire individuals to make a positive impact in their communities.

Fr. Malloy’s legacy reminds us all of our responsibility to help those in need. Your support of this year’s Helping Hands Award Dinner will help CHC improve the quality of living for those with serious, advanced illnesses – and their families – in the communities we serve.

Ever humble, Rev. Malloy spent most of the evening’s cocktail reception taking photos with many of the attendees in front of a step-and-repeat. His acceptance speech continued this theme as he several times downplayed his accomplishments, instead giving credit to others who helped him on his journey from Turkey Thicket Playground in Washington, D.C. to now as President Emeritus of the University of Notre Dame. He also gave credit to CHC for their involvement in two of the corporal works of mercy, an important tenet of the Brothers of the Holy Cross – caring for the sick and burying the dead. Rev. Malloy also brought to light how well the university has rallied around crises, including when one of their own would pass away.

It was a pleasure to recognize Rev. Malloy for his many accomplishments and contributions to our community and the world. Thank you to all who supported the event and who were in attendance. With your support, this was the most successful Helping Hands Award Dinner in our history!

Thank you to all of our sponsors! Your support allows us to keep our 43-year promise that no one who is eligible for and wants hospice care will ever be turned away, regardless of their ability to pay.
