Join us as we dedicate items that were donated in honor or memory of veterans at the Captain Robert J. Hiler Jr. Veterans Memorial.

Please join us for the ceremony featuring guest speaker Lieutenant General Robert A. Tiebout, Following graduation from Memphis State University with a B.S. in 1961 he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps in October 1961. Upon completion of The Basic School at Quantico, VA, General Tiebout attended the Combat Engineer Officer School at Camp Lejeune, NC. After returning from overseas tour he was promoted to captain. During 1967, he deployed to Vietnam with the 1st Marine Division where he served as the Company Commander of “A” Company, 9th Engineer Battalion and Battalion Operations Officer. He returned from Vietnam in 1968 and served in many capacities, earning a promotion to lieutenant colonel in 1978.

In 1980-1981 General Tiebout was a student at the Naval War College and upon graduation transferred to the 1st Force Service Support Group, Camp Pendleton, CA where he served as G-4 of the Force Service Support Group and Commanding Officer, 7th Engineer Support Battalion. Returning overseas, he served as the Commanding Officer of Range Company, Camp Fuji, Japan. Upon completion of his overseas tour, General Tiebout was assigned as the Assistant Chief of Staff, Facilities, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune. He assumed duty as the Commanding Officer, Marine Corps Engineer School. While serving in this capacity, he was selected for promotion to brigadier general in December 1987. On May 31, 1991 General Tiebout was advanced to major general and assigned duty as the Commanding General, Marine Corps Research, Development and Acquisition Command.

General Tiebout was nominated by the President for appointment to the grade of lieutenant general on March 19, 1992 and assignment as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Installations and Logistics. He assumed his assignment of Deputy Chief of Staff for Installations and Logistics, Headquarters Marine Corps, Washington, D.C. and was promoted to lieutenant general on August 12, 1992. His medals and decorations include: the Defense Distinguished Service Medal; the Distinguished Service Medal with Star; Bronze Star Medal with Combat “V”; Meritorious Unit Citation (Army) with ribbon bar; National Defense Service Medal; Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross Color); and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation (Civil Actions Color, 1st Class). Lieutenant General Robert A. Tiebout retired from the US Marine Corps in 1994.

The ceremony will be followed by a reception.
